This
database was created to be a supplementary aid to your genealogical
research. The indexed records may not always contain all the important
information on the marriage document. My aim is to index the records
with enough information so that you can find your family, and be
certain it is your family. Then with that information, (i.e. town
and county, page number and religion) you will be able to easily
find and retrieve a hard copy of the marriage record. To find the
necessary LDS microfilm number for your marriage record, please
visit János Bogárdi's 1877
Hungarian Gazetteer.
The
birth place listed in these indexed records may not always be the
birth place. It could be either the birth place or the place of
origin, if outside that town's church. Some church's hosted several
towns in an area and would simply state which town the individuals
were from, but not necessarily that they were born there. If there
is no entry for this category it means the person was from that
town, whether it is that they were born there or simply resided
there. If someone was born outside the town the parish records would
usually state the town, but that's not necessarily always the case.
There
are two words you might come across in this database. The first
is nemes (which means noble) and ozv., short for özvegye (which
means widow/widower). The occupations for the groom and bride are
not indexed. In some cases there are two family names (surnames) listed for an individual. In this case, the additional name will be listed in it's own column immediately after the groom or bride's surname and given name. During personal research, I have determind these additional names to either help differentiate a specific family from another in a town, or be that of the father's surname for an illegitimate child. These of course are not the only reasons for the use of additional names, but the ones I have come across in my personal research.
I have indexed these records to the best of my ability. That means,
as I am only human, that I'm prone to make a few mistakes somewhere
down the line. If you happen to come across any mistakes or problems,
please do not hesitate to contact me.
